Celebrating Centenarians at Magnolia Manor

Richmond Hill Resident Lib Wilbanks 104th Birthday (390)

Anyone who knows Magnolia Manor knows that our residents and staff love getting together for a party. After all, socialization isn’t just a healthy habit for seniors; it’s fun. So you can be sure that when one of our residents reaches an impressive milestone birthday, we go all out. We’re there with our party clothes on, ready to applaud our friend and eat some cake in their honor.

This year we’re congratulating not one or two, but three residents who are celebrating 100+ years of life! It’s living proof, we believe, that Magnolia Manor’s holistic approach to caring for the body, mind, and spirit helps residents experience longevity as well as maximum independence.

So let’s introduce this year’s centenarians.

Elizabeth “Lib” Wilbanks
Richmond Hill Resident Lib Wilbanks 104th Birthday (284)Lib turned 104 on July 22nd! She has lived at Magnolia Manor on the Coast in Richmond Hill for eighteen years, so we’ve had a chance to celebrate multiple centenarian birthdays with her! When she turned 100, she told us in this video of her party that she was especially grateful for her family and how often they come to visit her. Her 103rd birthday party included toasts from family and live music. And this year, friends and family – including her great-great-grandson -- gathered to honor her 104th with an elegant Roaring 20s party. Local WTOC TV news showed up to record the festivities.

Rachel Hurst
Americus RC Resident Rachel Hurst 101st Birthday_LR (3)Rachel celebrated her 101st birthday on June 19th, with a gathering of family and friends and, naturally, a delicious cake. When Rachel moved to Magnolia Manor of Americus back in 2013, she was especially pleased that she had found a new home where she could continue her faith journey. Like many of our residents, spiritual care is especially important in her daily life.

You can read more about her spiritual and life experiences in this issue of Manor Living magazine, starting on page 20.

Darlyn “Dar” Martin
Richmond Hill_Dar Birthday_6733The “youngster” of our centenarians, Dar turned 100 on July 19th. Friends, family members, and fellow residents surprised her the day before with a celebratory party that included balloons, a DJ, dancing, gifts, and of course cake. WTOC was on hand. She told their reporter that she “never expected it, and it’s the best thing that God ever gave me. Just to see everybody is my joy.”

Like Lib, Dar also lives at Magnolia Manor on the Coast in Richmond Hill. She’s been here for nearly six years now, proving you’re never too old to move to a great new place. In fact, Dar told our Manor Living magazine that moving to Magnolia Manor has helped improve her overall health and personal independence. Plus, she’s made some really great friends here, including one who shares her daily quest for fitness. You can read the full article to learn more about Dar and how she stays active at Magnolia Manor, starting on page 20.
