Mother's Day Recap 2022

2022 Richmond Hill Mothers Day (470) low rez

Did we celebrate Mother’s day at Magnolia Manor? You’re darn right we did! Where would we be without our moms? Within our Magnolia Manor family at each of our campuses, we have mothers of all ages. Not only residents, many of whom are grandmas or great-grandmothers, but staff who are moms. We even have a couple of mother-daughter teams among our staff.

So, when we celebrate Mother’s Day, we go all out.

One of the toughest aspects of the pandemic has been our inability to gather face-to-face to mark special occasions. Now, in many locations at least, those restrictions are easing. We did our best to take advantage of that.

Here’s a recap of how we celebrated Mother’s Day around Magnolia Manor this year:

  • Buena Vista
The ladies were given flowers from the campus Garden Club.
  • Columbus West
The ladies received red rose corsages along with special gifts and treats.

We held separate parties – Mother’s Day tea parties, of course -- for the ladies in independent and assisted living. There were prizes, refreshments, and live entertainment from a saxophone player who happened to be one of the resident’s sons. And we held friendly competitions to learn which resident had the most children and to vote on who was best dressed.
  • Americus
At the Mattie H. Marshall center, the ladies received flowers and refreshments.
  • Midway
Residents were treated to a Mother’s Day brunch.
  • Moultrie
Residents held a Mother’s Day tea party
  • Richmond Hill
The ladies were treated to a Mother and Daughter tea party complete with refreshments, gifts, and a fashion show. Residents came dressed in their Sunday best with fashionable hats Kentucky Derby style. No horses were in attendance.

You can tell from the photos that we all had a great time.

Any American alive today might think Mother’s Day has been around forever, since it has been celebrated in this country since 1908. A woman named Anna Jarvis got things started with a memorial service honoring her own mother who had passed. Mother’s Day became an official U.S. holiday a few years later, in 1914.

But you have to go much further back in time – more than a couple thousand years – to find the origins of Mother’s Day. It turns out that both the ancient Greeks and Romans celebrated mother goddesses.

We think there’s a good chance you think of your own mom as a goddess.

The Celebration Continues

If you weren’t able to join us in person or be with your own mom on Mother’s Day, you can still honor her in spirit. It’s never too late to contribute to our annual Mother’s Day Appeal. Those funds support our League of the Good Samaritan, which in turn assures that no resident ever has to leave Magnolia Manor because they can no longer afford the cost of their care. You can also donate money to help fund special programs at certain campuses.

If you have questions about our League of the Good Samaritan or senior living at Magnolia Manor, please contact us online or give us a call at (855) 540-LIFE.
