Senior Living Explained
Learn what different types of senior living care are available and which one best fits your needs now and in the future.

August 17th is National Nonprofit Day. Nonprofit organizations, large and small, are well-known to all of us. They enrich our lives and communities in so many ways. But did you know that Magnolia Manor is a nonprofit organization?
Yes, Magnolia Manor is a business that owns and manages eight senior living communities throughout South Georgia. And yes, we are proud to be a faith-based organization, affiliated with the Methodist church. But we operate as a nonprofit entity. What does that really mean, and what difference does it make for our senior living residents and staff?
“Nonprofit is a tax status, not a goal.”
This is a favorite saying of those who work in the nonprofit sphere. The fact is, all businesses need to bring in revenue sufficient to cover costs. In a for-profit setting, additional income may be reinvested to grow the business, but the primary goal is to generate earnings for owners and other investors. Higher profits mean higher earnings.
For nonprofits, the concept is the same. However, every dollar we bring in beyond what is needed to cover operating costs is used to fulfill our mission – providing the care and lifestyle we are so proud to offer our residents. Being profitable means that we can do even more now and in the future.
Putting Residents First
Since we are not financially beholden to owners or investors, our business decisions can focus on what is best for our residents, staff, and senior living communities. One especially important result is that we are able to keep resident fees as affordable as possible. In fact, as a nonprofit, we are able to make a promise that can be life-changing for some residents – that no one will have to leave Magnolia Manor if, through no fault of their own, they are no longer able to afford the full cost of their care.
As a nonprofit, we don’t have to cut corners on care or services just to benefit stakeholders. At Magnolia Manor, residents are our stakeholders! We are continuously investing in our campuses, which is why community support is so important for Magnolia Manor, as it is for all nonprofits. We couldn’t fulfill our promises or achieve our comprehensive commitment to providing carefree senior living without the help of our advocates and friends.
Better to Give than Receive
In keeping with our Methodist history and tradition, we know that those who give, in whatever way they can, receive the ultimate reward of knowing they are contributing meaningfully to the lives of others. Many of our staff, who work straight from the heart every day, tell us they feel blessed to be able to do the work they do here.
There are many opportunities to contribute throughout the year to help maintain and grow Magnolia Manor. Perhaps your church group is a “friend” of Magnolia Manor – or you’d like to start a group like this. Other options include:
We All Profit When Nonprofits Thrive
Providing the best possible senior care in our 8 communities shows how much we respect and appreciate our elders. As a nonprofit, Magnolia Manor is able to do more, making the most of every dollar. But we couldn’t do it without the ongoing support of people like you.
