Senior Living Explained
Learn what different types of senior living care are available and which one best fits your needs now and in the future.

We have so much to celebrate in the month of May. Once again, spring is officially underway, and we can see its signs everywhere. We feel uplifted. And while every month is associated with a variety of official and informal celebrations, May brings three observances that are especially important to all of us here at Magnolia Manor.
May 10th is Mother’s Day.jpg?width=425&height=283&name=2023%20Macon%20Mothers%20Day%20Tea%20(9250).jpg)
Since most of our Magnolia Manor residents and staff are women and moms, Mother’s Day is an obviously-favorite holiday. However, for us, it also has a broader meaning. Each May, we honor mothers and other women in our lives by taking up a special offering to benefit our League of the Good Samaritan. This unique fund exists specifically to ensure that Magnolia Manor residents can continue to live here and be cared for as needed, even if they are no longer able to afford the full cost.
May 6th is National Nurses Day
National Nurses Day actually kicks off National Nurses Week, because there’s more to celebrate and honor about nurses than we could possibly get to in one day! The dates are important because, appropriately, the week leads up to Florence Nightingale’s birthday, May 12, 1820.
Our Magnolia Manor nursing staff includes CNAs, CMAs, LPNs, RNs, and many associated service providers. A fun fact: several of them are mother-daughter teams! These professionals are the backbone of daily caring and support for our residents, especially those in assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and short-stay rehabilitation. We are thankful for every member of our nursing family, and we are always happy to applaud and support their efforts!
One way we’re doing that is by funding the new South Georgia Technical College Magnolia Manor Senior Living Scholarship. This award provides financial assistance to nurses working at Magnolia Manor who want to expand their knowledge and certifications. The first winners are Danielle Murphy, LPN, and Shermet Sims, LPN, both working to become Registered Nurses. And, yes, they are indeed mother and daughter.
May is National Mental Health Month
Mental health is just as important as physical health, which is why Magnolia Manor senior living communities focus on a holistic lifestyle that feeds the mind, body, and spirit. There are always things to do and folks to socialize with, which is one of the best ways to avoid feelings of loneliness and depression. The more we understand about how aging affects mental health, the more we can do to boost the well-being of our residents. Recognizing National Mental Health Month emphasizes how important this is.
There is always something to celebrate at Magnolia Manor. Our staff, our residents, our activities, and all of those who support our efforts to provide carefree senior living. Want to follow along? Check out our free quarterly Manor Living magazine.
