Senior Living Explained
Learn what different types of senior living care are available and which one best fits your needs now and in the future.

The entire concept of senior living has changed dramatically in recent years. If you’re considering a move for yourself or a loved one, it’s important to understand the choices that are available and how they differ.
Whether you’re looking for a carefree home where you can focus on life as an independent retiree or you need some help to retain maximum independence, our communities offer everything from lovely surroundings and comfy residential spaces to vibrant social calendars and loving professional care according to each person’s needs.
Things are different here. As a faith-based, non-profit organization, we take a holistic approach to the “care and feeding” of our residents. Regardless of who you are or where you are in your health journey, Magnolia Manor senior living is designed to help you thrive physically, mentally, and spiritually.
It’s true that most seniors will eventually need some type of assistance with personal or medical care, so we offer a full spectrum of senior living options among our eight campuses in South Georgia. Each campus is unique, but most offer multiple types of senior living.
Independent Living
This is just what it sounds like. You’re in charge when it comes to daily living decisions, and you have a private apartment or villa without all the downsides of home ownership. Independent living frees you from tedious chores that are time-consuming and, often, costly. You can say goodbye to yardwork and home maintenance and say hello to new neighbors and friends.
Some Magnolia Manor independent living communities offer an option we call Catered Living – a menu of extras designed to clear your to-do list of activities such as cooking, laundry, or other personal tasks. With Catered Living, you can spend even more time enjoying your retirement.
Assisted Living
There are now many types of in-home care services available, but many older adults find that moving to a senior community is actually the better choice. Assisted living promotes maximum independence by providing just the specific help you need with activities of daily living. Things like dressing, bathing, or medication management. If your personal care needs increase, we’re here to help with those, too.
Residents live in private one- or two-bedroom apartments, with all the necessities from utilities and maintenance to three tasty meals a day included. Everyone has onsite access to health and wellness amenities and a wealth of social activities and other events.
Memory Care
Experience has taught us that many seniors facing cognitive challenges thrive best in a home-like assisted living environment. At the same time, we are seeing an increasing number of assisted living residents who need memory care services but not advanced medical care. So, Magnolia Manor offers two distinct types of memory care:
Skilled Nursing
Skilled nursing facilities provide full-time, ongoing medical and nursing care for residents with progressive chronic disease. Modern skilled nursing is nothing like the nursing homes of old. At Magnolia Manor, residents receive appropriate physical exercise and uplifting daily experiences in a homey atmosphere designed to promote overall health and well-being.
Skilled nursing is also available on a short-term, temporary basis for those who have been hospitalized but who are not quite ready to return home on their own. This can include follow-up medical care as well as physical, speech, and/or occupational rehabilitation therapy. The goal is to help individuals remain functionally comfortable and as independent as possible following a stroke, accident, injury, or illness.
At Magnolia Manor, the Emphasis is on Living
Reading up on the various types of senior living can answer many of your questions. However, communities can vary tremendously in their approach to care and the specific steps they take to ensure resident happiness and wellness. What’s it really like at Magnolia Manor? Come see for yourself! Schedule a tour today at any one of our 8 communities or give us a call at (855) 540-LIFE to learn more.
