Campus Spotlight: Americus Our Flagship Campus

senior living americus georgia

Our Magnolia Manor website contains lots of useful information about all nine of our campuses. But while living accommodations, care services, and amenities are all important factors in choosing a senior living community, prospective residents mostly want to know: what is it really like to live there? We try to portray that flavor as best we can, especially, in our quarterly Manor Living Magazine.

Since there is so much more to each campus than meets the eye and each one is distinctly different, in this blog we delve deeper to get the inside scoop on Magnolia Manor Americus – our original and still “flagship” campus. Here’s what those on location have to say.

This campus is very community-oriented, like a family. Americus itself is a small town, and our residents are often involved with the schools and local organizations.

We are Social
Our residents love to get together for any reason but especially to sing, listen to music, eat ice cream, watermelon, or a good ole’ tomato sandwich. Anytime you throw any of those into the mix, you can expect a full house. Residents also love it when we bring corn in for them to shuck, or bring them peas to shell.

Things may not change much from day to day, but for many residents this is an “appointment” they never miss. It’s the perfect time to share any family or community news they may have gathered from the night before.

The clubhouse draws independent living residents to play games, and for events such as cookouts. One favorite memory is the time members of the Americus Fire Department visited to put on a talent show. Another favorite is the coffee shop in the retirement center, where residents gather in the mornings to sip and chat. Often friends from the community drop by to join them.

And with the pandemic easing, everyone is excited to get out into the city more to see concerts and plays or cheer on the Georgia Southwestern State University teams.

We Have Talent

The oldest player happens to be Activity Director Kathy Freeman’s own Nanny. She recently celebrated her 101st birthday on March 16th!

We also have two very talented painters and lots of experienced crafters. In fact, painting is one of the most popular pastimes for residents, whether they’re accomplished or just picking up a brush for the first time.

We Are Strong in Body and Spirit

There is also a full-service rehabilitation therapy building. However, we must say that for many of our residents, our beautiful chapel is especially important. Here, they can attend worship services and other faith-based activities or simply spend quiet time reflecting.

One final thing that you will always hear an Americus Retirement Center resident say is how they love to sit in the front porch rockers and watch the cars go by. Sounds relaxing at any time of day, doesn’t it?

Carefree Living
