Macon Staff Spotlight: Meet Danielle Brown

Danielle Brown assisted living in macon

With her nursing background, Danielle Brown brings a special understanding to her new role as Sales Coordinator at Magnolia Manor in Macon. She works with prospective residents and families who are interested in learning about either independent or assisted living, and in her words, “I love it!”

Sometimes seniors contact her on their own. Sometimes family members reach out to ask about independent living because their parent’s home is now just too big, or because one spouse is now gone.

“I always ask what they’re looking for,” she says, “what kind of experience they want to have.” Depending on their answers, she explains what Magnolia Manor has to offer them. She helps them understand the difference between independent and assisted living. And she stresses to independent living prospects that if they ever need assistive care instead, they won’t have to move away.

Adult children often ask Danielle, “How can you help prepare my mom to make this move?” For that, she usually schedules a lunch meeting. It’s an opportunity for the mom and daughter to taste Magnolia Manor’s delicious food for themselves while Danielle explains the living and care options available. One of the first questions she asks of Mom is why she’s feeling hesitant about coming to Magnolia Manor.

Many elderly people still get nervous about assisted living, she says, because they think it’s a nursing home, so she explains that assisted living is in no way like that. It’s about maintaining maximum independence in your own residence even though you may need help with certain tasks.

Danielle Speaks with Personal Empathy

assisted living in maconHer grandfather lived at Magnolia Manor in Americus. Whenever she came home to visit, she saw that he was always happy, and he always told her it felt like home. That’s what she tells potential new residents, too – Magnolia Manor is famous for its close-knit, family-like atmosphere.

Knowing her grandfather’s experience also made her especially interested in the Sales Coordinator position at the Macon campus.

It was a hard transition for her grandfather, too – leaving his big house and moving to a senior community. But he knew it was the safest decision for him. Danielle reassures families that their loved one will be living in a great community where it is safe and feels like home, because that’s exactly what Magnolia Manor is.

“We also call and check on each other,” she adds, “to ensure everyone is OK and no one is lonely – especially to make sure all residents have someone to be with on holidays.”

Another big benefit for residents is the ability to renew socialization skills that often go by the wayside when one spouse passes away.

Danielle stays with potential residents every step of the way throughout the process, from answering questions and showing them around to communicating with family and their doctor, if necessary, and handling paperwork.

Once they move in, she continues to check in on them even though their primary staff contact is now someone else, often a CNA.

“I was the first face they saw,” she explains, “so sometimes the resident or family members still reach out to me.” And that’s just fine with her.

Danielle says she loves being here at Magnolia Manor in Macon. The best part of her job is being able to help seniors and families understand the decision-making process as well as the process of making the move itself.

Her title may be Sales Coordinator, but in reality she is an educator and advocate to help seniors make the best decision for themselves. And she’s a friend within the family once they move to Magnolia manor.
