The expression “rally round the flag” refers to coming together for a common purpose. And what could be a more fulfilling purpose than coming together to express and share our faith? As a faith-based senior community, many of our Magnolia Manor residents and staff love to do just that. So once we were able to congregate in person again, our Americus campus started a new tradition – prayer at the flagpole.
As we look back at 2022, our hearts warm to see how many new residents we have welcomed to our Magnolia Manor communities throughout south Georgia. New neighbors mean new friends! In their own words, here’s what some of these new residents and their families have to say about their decision to choose Magnolia Manor.

Most of us look forward to the holidays as a joyous time, but for some people the holidays can bring on a case of the blues. For seniors, the season can be especially difficult. Thankfully, there are lots of ways any of us can get ahead of the blues and ensure the upcoming weeks feel festive and uplifting.

Do you think of yourself as a grateful person? When you were a kid, someone probably told you to “stop being so negative” or to “be thankful for what you have.” As adults, many of us have read books or articles about the “power of positive thinking.” These concepts have real merit. No matter your age, deliberately practicing gratitude and positive thinking can literally change your brain.

Beyond Bingo: Senior Living Activities Have Come a Long Way
Whether you’re actively independent or not quite as active as you once were, no one wants to sit around all day doing nothing. We all need stimulation to keep our minds, bodies, and spirits strong. Senior living fosters a sense of community and – here at Magnolia Manor, at least – provides a wealth of opportunities to exercise and socialize.

Welcome to Magnolia Manor in Columbus, Georgia! As our website says, we’re on “the banks of the Chattahoochee, where the Piedmont meets the Plain.” Sounds inviting, doesn’t it? And it is. At Magnolia Manor, we are blessed to have so many truly wonderful staff members. They are as much a part of our family as our residents. Usually, the only people who get to know them are their colleagues and the residents they serve within a particular Magnolia Manor campus. So when we have an opportunity to highlight a staff member here in our blog so everyone can meet them, we always say yes.

One of the best things about senior living communities is that you get to meet so many new and interesting people. Whether you move to Magnolia Manor as a resident, or you work here, or even if you’re a visiting family member or friend, you immediately realize you are surrounded by unique life stories.
And who doesn’t love a good story? That’s why we always highlight residents in our quarterly Manor Living magazine. And from time to time, we like to introduce residents to our blog readers as well. So let’s meet Lucile Garrison.

Our Magnolia Manor website contains lots of useful information about all nine of our campuses. But while living accommodations, care services, and amenities are all important factors in choosing a senior living community, prospective residents mostly want to know: what is it really like to live there? We try to portray that flavor as best we can, especially, in our quarterly Manor Living Magazine.

Things may not be back to normal yet – whatever “normal” may turn out to be – but here at Magnolia Manor our staff and residents are so happy to see the return of in-person events. Virtual get-togethers simply do not rise to the occasion like the opportunity to see, hear, and hug one another up close and personally.
So, you can be sure we are doing all we can to reconvene for activities small and large. Many of these activities center around our own campuses and residents, of course. But some also serve to reinforce the close relationships we enjoy with our surrounding communities. Here are two recent examples.
